Can you get orthodontic treatment if you've had gum disease and bone loss?

A new study released in May of 2023 in the Journal of Periodontology, one of the main journals for periodontists (gum and bone specialists), studied patients who received orthodontic treatment starting 3 months after gum and bone treatment. Those patients, even though they originally had severe disease, maintained their gum and bone in the long term over the 10 years of the study. 

The TAKE-HOME MESSAGE is that in cooperative patients, orthodontic treatment can be safely pursued with good and stable long-term bone and gum health
