Should I Use a High-Fluoride Toothpaste or Fluoride Mouthrinse with Braces?

A recent study showed that in teenage patients with a low risk of cavities and good oral hygiene, changing to a high-fluoride toothpaste or adding a fluoride mouthwash in addition to regular toothpaste didn't make a significant difference in rates of cavities. 

We recommend changing to a high-fluoride toothpaste or adding a fluoride mouthwash to your daily routine if a patient struggles with consistent and adequate brushing and flossing or tends to have a lot of cavities. However, for patients with good habits and infrequent cavities, this does not appear necessary.
